The work Heirloom takes on

Jesse specialises in the timber and joinery of period buildings: sash and casement windows, doors, staircases, cabinetry and mouldings, repaired, restored, or remade to match. He also takes on fine joinery of any kind.

Heritage conservation

Sympathetic repair that retains as much original fabric as possible, with exact-replica reconstruction where the old is past saving. The work follows Burra Charter principles, repairing like for like and matching original materials and methods. The aim throughout is to conserve a building’s history so that it remains, above all, a place people want to be.

Doors & windows

Sash and casement windows and timber doors, restored, repaired, or made as exact replicas. Where a mainstream joinery shop or hardware chain will offer a “period-style” door, the difference here is in the detail: traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, with proportions and moulding profiles matched to the building rather than to a catalogue.

  • Sash & casement windows
  • Timber doors & entrances
  • Fanlights & sidelights
  • Exact replicas of lost originals
  • Period-style new work

External timber work

Verandahs, gables, entrances and decking: restored where they can be, rebuilt where they can’t, and newly made where a building calls for something that wasn’t there before. Every job starts with careful timber selection, before each element is detailed to suit the building and built to see out another century.

  • Verandahs & pergolas
  • Entrances & awnings
  • Decking

Other joinery

Staircases, balustrades, cabinetry, benchtops and timber mouldings, made to suit the building. The awkward jobs are welcome too: a lot of this work starts as a sketch for a space that nothing off the shelf will suit.
